The Village
Dragon God Waterfall (Ryujin-no-taki)
Legend has it that a white dragon resides here, overseeing the peace of the area. The waterfall is best seen around noon on a clear sunny day.
Paddy fields
Depending on the season, you may even be able to experience going into the murky paddy fields barefoot to plant the baby rice sprouts or harvest the golden grains.
Yuumori Reserve
The 15,000 Japanese maple trees in Yuumori Reserve turn a bright fiery red in early November. A magnificent sight you will never forget. In the summer, you can enjoy a cooling walk in the forest and a refreshing dip in the crystal clear river. Short and long hiking trails for discovering waterfalls are there as well.
The local kids will be delighted to give you a tour of the Yumori Reserve in English. They have been training hard!
Thermal Baths
When the community recreation field was being dug, they found thermal hot springs underground. This is a public bath so it’s nothing fancy, but hot springs are said to have a healing effect for the body and soul. Please note that people with tattoos are not permitted to enter public baths.
Pristine Rivers
Being one of the origins of the Kiso River network, the rivers here are crystal clear. The water of this river (and our tap water) is mostly composed of rainwater that fell onto these mountains 400 years ago. Rain water has slowly seeped through the ground to create this Kawaue River. Plenty of beautiful locations to relax, go for a dip and do picnics/barbeques!
